Thanksgiving Special for Peanut Butter and Chocolate Lovers
Pie-sized peanut butter cup released just in time to share with family and friends during the holidays.
What does Thanksgiving mean to you? For many, it’s about family, love, friendship, gratitude, and lots and lots of pie. It’s no secret that pie plays an iconic role at the Thanksgiving buffet. Whether it's apple, pecan, pumpkin or cranberry, Americans love their pies. And now 3,000 Americans will have one more thing to be thankful for: a giant Reese’s Pieces Peanut Butter pie.
When is a pie not a pie: When it's a candy
According to Market Watch this decadent pie has a nine inch diameter and weighs in at a full 3.25 pounds (1.5 kilograms) and 7,680 calories! Although that’s too many calories to go it alone, the $44.99 pie is perfect to share with family and friends.
Thanksgiving reminds us of togetherness, but the giant, mouthwatering dessert sparks controversy. Namely over what a pie is. Food and Wine Magazine weighs in, calling them “pie-sized cups.” That’s because, unlike most pies, the Reese’s Thanksgiving pie lacks that doughy crust.
On the other hand, who says crust can’t be solid chocolate? Essentially, the Reese’s Thanksgiving pie is a garden variety Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. Only this one is supersized, or rather super super sized!
Make your pie and eat it too
The peanut butter cup pie generated a lot of buzz on social media. But, not everybody who wanted a pie got one. USA Today reports that the chocolate makers released just 3000 of these deserts. Within hours every single pie had already been claimed.

Still, behind every cloud there’s a silver lining. If you didn’t snag a pie, the good news is that you can still have the deliciously sweet taste of chocolate and peanut butter, as well as the family fun of assembling it yourself in your kitchens. We won’t even tell anyone if you lick the spoons.
It’s actually not too hard to make your own knockoff peanut butter cup. Or, in honor of Thanksgiving, your own peanut butter cup pie. According to Tasty, you only need three ingredients: chocolate, peanut butter and powdered sugar. Although if you plan to make the Thanksgiving peanut butter cup “pie,” we suggest you buy them in bulk. Check out this video recipe too!
Fill your cup
For those who would rather skip the cooking and go straight to eating, there are other options for super sized Reese’s. If you live near Hershey’s Chocolate World in Hershey, PA, the NY Daily News suggests you take advantage of the Stuff Your Cup experience.
There you can practice being grateful for the small and large things in life, while stuffing an extra large one pound chocolate cup full of as many small treats as you want from a toppings bar. Check out this mouthwatering Instagram clip! Sure it’s no nine pound pie, but we can’t imagine any Thanksgiving table that wouldn’t welcome a giant chocolate cup full of cookie dough, sprinkles, marshmallows and of course peanut butter.
A third option is to forgo the candy pie experience, and donate the ingredients to a food bank instead. Thanksgiving is about sharing, and why not extend your circle of caring to those in your neighborhood experiencing poverty or homelessness. Giving can help you feel more grateful making it a win-win this holiday season.
Whichever way you choose to slice it, we wish you a Thanksgiving filled with fond memories, gratitude, sharing and lots and lots and chocolate.
