Most kids are kicking off their school year with a new classroom, fresh back-to-school clothes and supplies to last the year. While some students might have a new teacher and others return to the same one, educators are the backbone to making a school year wonderful. Many of these helpful instructors toil day in and out to ensure that their students are receiving a quality education, going the extra mile to make the classroom a safe place of learning, respect and fun. Mrs. Flexer has been a 1st grade teacher for over 41 years, and upon retirement, her colleague contacted Kid President to make sure she received a nice send off. What she didn’t expect was a surprise of a lifetime with former students coming to say how she personally helped them along the way.

While a bit lengthy at 12 minutes, this moving New York Times mini biography of teacher Jeffrey Wright is well worth the watch. The dedicated teacher spellbinds his students with his off-the-wall science experiments, but also connects with them on a deeper level as he shares his own personal challenges.
