Power of Sleep is the name of the free Android app which allows users to donate their mobile phone’s unused computing power to scientific research. Developed by Samsung Austria and the University of Vienna, the two forces came up with a novel idea to enable anyone to do their part to find cures to cancer and Alzheimer’s. A lot of tests are required to decode protein sequences in these diseases, and in order to run the tests, they need a significant amount of computing power. So while you sleep, the app collects your unused processing power and directs it to the University of Vienna servers to aid with research. Just think about it, with only some electrical power, WIFI and a smartphone you can do your part to advance science and heal the world!
