One of the most beautiful parts of visiting a foreign country is getting a taste of the local culture - really understanding what makes that special destination tick. But how do you go about planning the type of trip that gives that real local experience? Forgo TripAdvisor and get tuned into Visitor.org - a new platform that connects travelers to meaningful tours, workshops and activities hosted by nonprofits around the globe. For example, visitors can take care of rescued elephants in Thailand or surf with kids in South Africa using sport as a means to empower and help those youth in need.

Proceeds from these unique experiences are funneled back into the nonprofits, providing worthy organizations with more funds to continue their activities, and greater exposure to their mission and values.

Launched in the summer of 2014, Visit.org is active in over 100 communities and has connected with over 500 visitors, including a growing number of ambassadors who spread the word about what the site has to offer. Most recently, Visit.org ran a successful crowdfunding campaign that will help expand its scope and operational capacity.

This unique platform presents a twist to the volunteering abroad experiences out there, by giving intrepid travelers a vacation of a lifetime while facilitating extra revenue and raising awareness of incredible on-the-ground nonprofits.
