When you think of Broadway, images of bright white lights come to mind. But what if those lights were a little greener - as in more energy efficient for the sake of the environment? Thanks to the Broadway Green Alliance this is becoming a reality.
From the glitz and glamour of the front of house, all the way to the backstage, the industry-wide initiative is educating, inspiring and motivating the theater community to adopt and implement more eco-friendly practices.
It's not just about saving energy - the Alliance has also encouraged theaters to be mindful of using paints that are good for the environment on sets, and to focus on recycling costumes when closing shows. So simple, yet so efficient.
Thursday, March 27, is World Theater Day, so it's a good time to start thinking about what you can do to make Broadway a greener place.
