This Woman's Speaking Tour Empowers Women Everywhere [Q&A]
A voice for every single type of female perspective
Jennifer Rudolph Walsh serves as the head of WME’s Worldwide Literary, Lectures, and Conference Divisions and steers the industry’s most prominent book business with the largest presence of any agency on the New York Times Best Seller List. She is the only female member of WME’s board and created WME’s first Women’s Summit in 2011, which assembled 120 female execs from the agency’s offices around the world. Her Together speaking tour brings thousands of women across a multitude of backgrounds and generations together to share their raw stories and focus on building community, taking action, and finding self-love.
For this week’s 10 Good Questions Walsh spoke to Goodnet to give an insight on what motivates and drives her.
1. WHAT IS YOUR POSITION?
I run the Literary, Lectures and Conference Divisions at WME and I'm the co-creator of Together Live, a nationwide touring event featuring an array of thought leaders, activists, artists, athletes and celebrities guests for a night of storytelling and inspired conversation. I created Together Live with my co-founder and dear friend, Glennon Doyle.
2. WHAT IS YOUR ORGANIZATION’S/YOUR MISSION?
Together Live wants to bring the wisdom from the smallest rooms to the largest ones possible by democratizing the conference experience with tickets starting at just $25 and the event taking place on a weekday evening. This year, we are coming to ten cities across the country and featuring incredible speakers, such as our co-founder Glennon Doyle, Luvvie Ajayi, Abby Wambach, Ibtihaj Muhammad, Connie Britton, Sophia Bush and more.
Our core belief is that storytelling helps people use the breadcrumbs of their life story to uncover their unique purpose. The Together Live tour celebrates those vulnerable truths and connects our audience to a community that supports them getting over the bridge of bravery into action.
3. WHO INSPIRES YOU?
My first true inspiration was Rosa Parks, who showed me that one brave woman who stands up for what she believes has the power to change the world. From there, the list of badass women who are living their purpose wholeheartedly is long and mighty, with my co-founder Glennon Doyle chief among them.
4. WHAT IS THE BEST PART ABOUT YOUR JOB?
First of all, being able to learn and meet the most fascinating, mission-driven people on earth. I am also blessed to work with an amazing multi-generational team of women who are committed to bringing the Together tour to life for our 35,000 guests nationwide. It is no small task! Through their hard work and vision, we are able to create these transformational events and shine the light forward for others.
5. WHAT IS YOUR GO-TO SONG THESE DAYS?
Feeling Good by Nina Simone
6. DO YOU HAVE A SIMPLE TRICK THAT CAN MAKE SOMEONE ELSE FEEL GOOD INSTANTLY?
Ask them about what it is they do that makes time magically fly by. That is a breadcrumb to finding your purpose, which is one of the themes of Together Live.
7. GYM OR YOGA?
I’ve been into “The Class” by Taryn Toomey, which combines yoga, calisthenics and mediation for an amazing workout of the body and spirit.
8. WHAT WAS YOUR LAST GOOGLE SEARCH?
Does magnesium oil foot spray really help you sleep?
9. BOOKS OR MOVIES?
Both, and TV too! Hearing stories, whether fiction or nonfiction, instantly make you feel connected and less alone.
10. WHAT DO YOU WANT GOODNET USERS TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR ORGANIZATION?
You don’t need to be qualified to attend Together Live. Tickets, which can be purchased at togetherlive.com, start at $25 and events are held after work hours, so everyone is encouraged to attend. Give us three hours, and we will give you a new way to view your life and what’s possible.
