Good Deeds Day is almost here but it is not too late to join this global day of volunteering and doing good in your community. Founded by  visionary philanthropist and businesswoman Shari Arison, Good Deeds began in 2007 in just one country and has grown to 115 countries around the world. This year, millions of people join together on April 6 to do good. You can too!

You can find inspiration from one of these six last minute ideas or get ideas from past projects from around the world to help you plan your own or to join one near you.

Spring Clean and Donate Unused Items

Spring is here and now is the time to give your home a real sprucing up. But before you start scrubbing floors and cleaning windows, take the time to declutter your closets and your home, suggested Better Homes & Gardens. It’s quite simple to do. Sort through your clothing, knickknacks, and sports equipment. Donate anything that you don’t need to Goodwill.

Give Blood

Good Deeds Day – or any day – is the perfect time to give blood. There is always a need for blood or platelets, and hospitals depend on people stepping up to donate. Check to see if there is a blood drive going on in your community or if you can donate at a hospital. While you are there, sign an organ donor card.

Home-Made Treats

Nothing says thank you better than home-made treats. Bake some cookies or banana bread and bring them to a police station, firehouse, or to diligent nurses at a local hospital. If you don’t bake, bring flowers instead. You can also hand out flowers to strangers to brighten their day.

Be Positive on Social Media

This is a simple thing to do. Just post this graphic on Facebook or other social media and spread the news about Good Deeds Day. This will inspire your friends to get involved in the largest day of volunteering and doing good.

Create a Positive Vision Wall

Create a positive vision board in a public space, according to the folks at Good Deeds Day. All you need is a table, index cards, markers, and a sign asking people to “Write your vision for a better future!” or “What will you do today to make the world better?” Your vision board will soon fill-up with  inspirational messages of hope and positivity.

Helping the Planet

Helping the environment is a big part of what Good Deeds Day is about. You can do your part by planting a tree, taking part in a park or beach clean-up, or working in a community garden. If you live in an urban area, you can recycle or pick-up litter. Helping the planet is good for everyone.

Donate Diapers to a Food Bank

You probably think that food banks only need canned food and boxed items like pasta, but did you know that food banks also help to supply needy families with baby diapers and wipes too? So bring some in to your local food bank or diaper bank. You can even plan a diaper drive and get the community involved.
