The Inspirational Talks Site That Focuses on the ‘Why’ [Q&A]
Gal Stiglitz from WOW Talks wants to help you find your purpose.
According to Gal Stiglitz, the key to professional fulfillment lies in your “why” - your purpose in life. He founded WOW Talks in 2009 to help people all around the world find their own answer to that crucial question. To inspire self-exploration, WOW Talks feature people who have made flourishing careers out of their dreams and aspirations. Each lecture - or talk - is nine minutes long and always ends with a thought-provoking question to the audience. In this week’s 10 Good Questions, Stiglitz talks to Goodnet about inspiring people to follow their dreams - and make a living out of something they love.
1. What is your organization’s mission?
To WOW (definition: to stimulate) individuals, communities and organizations with events that are full of positive energy and rich with insightful content. To inspire people to follow their own dreams and create a life they love.
2. What makes you guys different from the rest?
A few key things make us stand out:
1. We create a balanced fusion between insightful content and light entertaining acts.
2. Our short talks highlight the WHY, not the HOWs. In essence, speakers tell their personal story and perspective behind the professional choices they've made. They share their challenges as well as their achievements.
3. We highlight the question and not the conclusion. So each talk is titled with a question or a call for action. In this way, we avoid imposing and encourage stimulation.
4. Speakers interact with the audience during or after the talks.
5. We create events in a big variety of topics and themes from fashion to food, tech to travel.
3. Offices or open work space?
The combination of open space and private meeting rooms works pretty well for us.
4. What three words describe your organization?
Energy Meets Content
or
Where Dreams Matter
or
Insightful Entertaining Inspiring
5. What inspires you?
People. People that face adversities powerfully. People who get up right after they crash. People who keep challenging themselves and don’t give up on their dreams.
6. What is the best part about your job?
Meeting extraordinary people and listening to them. Hearing from people how profound the experience of WOW Talks was for them. Curating speakers.
7. Does your team eat lunch together?
Sometimes. Somehow there is always someone in the team on some kind of diet :). We also often have lunch meetings with other people.
8. Facebook or Twitter?
We speak mostly the Facebook language and translate for Twitter.
9. What do you want Goodnet users to know about your organization?
That they are welcome to check our website regularly for new inspiring talks and join our events in London, Tel Aviv or New York. That if they were waiting for permission to go and do something extraordinary - we just gave them permission. Go, now!
10. How can people get involved?
Sign up to our newsletter, apply to speak at one of our events or volunteer to be part of an event production team.
