It's Jana's second birthday and her mom has gone all out, setting a beautiful birthday table complete with a Minnie Mouse birthday cake. It’s hard to tell that in her two short years Jana has seen more hardship than most people do in a lifetime. Jana has Leigh's Disease, a rare genetic neurological disorder that affects the central nervous system. To honor her bravery and resilience, many people have come together to make sure she has a great birthday - among them are volunteers from Cake Angels.
The Australian-based charity Cake Angels brings smile to the faces of sick children all over Australia with stunning donated cakes. If you ask a Cake Angel they’ll tell you - it’s not just frosting and sugar they put into their artfully decorated cakes. These artists are using cakes as a means to change the world.
The Australian-based charity connects either professional cake decorators or hobbyists with seriously ill children. Using their flair for frosting, the volunteers bring a much-needed smile to the faces of children. For a family dealing with this kind of hardship, a happy moment can become one of their most cherished memories. As part of the fun, the children get to pick a theme for their cake based on their hobbies or favorite characters, ranging from Lego and Minnie Mouse cakes for the younger children to Japanese animation and makeup themes for the teenagers.
