Providing support through cleaning
Jen Hamilton, a nurse and mother of two, created Hot Mess Express in 2021 after realizing how many women, particularly moms, were struggling to manage their homes due to life’s many pressures. The organization's mission is clear: to offer support, not only through cleaning but also through kindness, camaraderie, and empowerment. By sharing her journey on TikTok, Jen has been able to reach a wide audience, expanding Hot Mess Express into a nationwide initiative.
“I’m a mom that suffered through a lot of post -partum depression, especially after having my son and I just didn’t want to live. You know it felt really hard and all these chores were piling up and made it even harder to want to exist and so I wish I had someone that just came in and just said-- don’t worry about those dishes, we’ll get it for you,” Brandy Hall, the Chaos Coordinator for Hot Mess Express, told Fox News.
Judgment-free philosophy
But what truly sets Hot Mess Express apart is its judgment-free philosophy, according to the Maria Shriver Sunday Paper community. The team recognizes that everyone has moments when life becomes overwhelming, and rather than casting blame, they show up with empathy, helping families get back on their feet. Whether it's through completing household chores or simply offering a listening ear, Hot Mess Express fosters a supportive and nurturing environment. It’s about more than just cleaning; it’s about making life a little easier for those in need.
“The feeling of drowning in your own home causes a lot of people to feel stuck, and thankfully, we are able to help ease that feeling for others. So many times I hear people talk about needing friends and someone to talk to, and they find that in our community,” Izzy Crislip, Hot Mess Express coordinator, told Cleveland.com.
The impact of Hot Mess Express extends far beyond organized homes. Many who have received help from the organization describe feeling a renewed sense of hope and energy. The service has been transformative, offering a fresh start for families burdened by clutter and disorganization. In fact, many clients credit the service with giving them the mental and emotional clarity needed to tackle other aspects of their lives.
As Hot Mess Express continues to grow, Jen and her team hope to inspire others to embrace their mission of kindness and understanding. Their message is simple: no one should have to face life’s challenges alone, and everyone deserves a helping hand in times of need.
