The good folks at the Starkey Hearing Foundation have pledged to fit 1 million hearing aids this decade for people in need around the world. Sound like a bit of a tall order? With former presidents and a host of A-list celebrities like Elton John and Ashton Kutcher helping them, this dream looks likely to become a reality.
The pledge was made in response to a Clinton Global Initiative challenge and even Bill Clinton himself was personally involved in the effort when he visited Zambia and Rwanda last year to work on important projects there.
With teams of dedicated volunteers, often including Hollywood actors, music legends and top sports stars, the Starkey Hearing Foundation sets off on missions around the world fitting hearing aids for people who wouldn't otherwise have been able to afford them. By giving the world the gift of hearing, founder William F. Austin hopes to create understanding between people through caring and sharing. Judging by the plethora of inspiring stories of hope, it looks like his message is being heard loud and clear.
