When Anthony tweeted that he didn’t have a date to prom, it seemed only natural to Jacob to help out his friend. Anthony, who is gay, and Jacob, who is straight, became friends while serving on the student council together at Desert Oasis High School in Las Vegas, Nevada.
After finding out that Anthony had a crush on him, Jacob couldn’t help but feel mildly uncomfortable. “Being a straight high school student, that’s kind of weird to think about,” he explained on The Ellen Show. But as the two boys became closer, Jacob learned that “gay” and “straight” were just needless labels. It didn’t take him long to understood that friendship transcends differences, builds bridges, and dissolves labels. While Jacob had never really had an interest in gay rights, because of his friendship with Anthony he now strongly supports equality.
Anthony had just finished class when he noticed some commotion in the hallway. As he approached the scene, he saw Jacob with his arms outstretched and a large banner that read “you’re hella gay, I’m hella str8 but you’re like my brother so be my d8?” The two boys went to prom together in matching suits, showing the world that nothing can get in the way of friendship.
