90% of a child’s brain develops in the first five years of their life – pretty astounding right? Their young and eager minds are like sponges, soaking up new information and constantly learning from their immediate environment. With the mind in such a fertile state, it is only natural to want to nourish and cultivate those growing brains with quality early childhood education.
SoulPancake has teamed up with The Opportunity to Learn (OTL) Campaign to shine a spotlight on the importance of preschool with this adorable video, “The View from 3 Feet Above. “ In the clip, sweet and inquisitive children sing the praises of their preschool education as they are asked questions like what is their favorite part of school. Their happy answers include learning new things, going to music class and of course playing with their friends. The kids are also asked what they want to be when they grow up, and truly the sky is the limit with youngsters imagining themselves as future paleontologists, astronauts and pilots.
The tone of the video changes when the interviewer tells the children that not every child gets to go to preschool. Expressions of shock, disbelief and confusion cross over the children’s faces as it seems unfathomable that one in every two kids in the United States is missing out on preschool.
The OTL Campaign, a coalition of advocates and organizers across the US, is looking to change that statistic by promoting early education reform, ensuring that every youngster has access to a quality preschool education.
