Many people turn to spirituality as a way to live a life full of purpose and meaning. But what exactly is spirituality? And how can it help you with the big questions in life?
According to The Free Press Journal, spirituality is the science of the soul. It helps you understand yourself, who you are and why you are here. Spirituality – whether you have been seeking a spiritual journey or not – influences you in many ways. It impacts how you view the world around you, and your place in it.
But being open to spirituality is not enough, you have to actually seek it out. While the idea may be daunting, this beginners guide to spirituality can help you start your own spiritual journey. Here’s how:
Your journey belongs to only you
You must be your own guide to what you consider the divine, stressed the becoming minimalist blog. Whether you are seeking a higher consciousness through meditation or looking to God for guidance and inspiration, you should not blindly accept the teachings of others, even those of a parent, mentor, or friend. Your spirituality has to reflect your own personal journey.
Begin where you are
Begin your journey where you are now. Use your own traits of character, your kindness, your compassion, and your empathy as a starting point and as a first step. If you are facing a difficult trial in life like an illness, a loss, or a rejection, turn to your strengths to get through it. Understanding your inner strength is a good place to start on your spiritual trajectory.
Practice and then practice again
Like anything else in life, your spirituality and growth have to be practiced. If you don’t find the answers on your own, try taking a yoga class, doing a guided meditation, or practice your faith by going to a house of worship. A spiritual journey is not a quick fix, it requires time, effort, and much practice.
Don’t worry about unanswered questions
Understand that not all your questions will be answered. This may sound contrary to your goal of pursuing the big questions of your life but you should not worry or fear the lack of answers. You should not abandon your search for purpose and meaning. After all, the human mind may not be able to fathom all the mysteries of the universe but much good can come out of the pursuit of meaningful spiritual questions.
