Open, accessible, shareable – these adjectives all describe the School of Open, a new online portal that provides educational resources and professional development courses centered on the idea of openness in the digital age.
Created in partnership with Peer 2 Peer University (P2PU) - a grassroots open education project, and Creative Commons - a nonprofit that makes creative works public and available for use, School of Open wants to empower people to use free technology and tools to achieve their goals.
The school offers free courses for individuals with two different styles of learning - stand alone courses that can be done on one’s own time, and facilitated courses, which take place for a set time period and include moderation and feedback by the organizer.
Some cool facilitated courses currently on the docket are Creative Commons for K- 12 Educators and Writing Wikipedia Articles: The Basics and Beyond. Now’s the time to get into the open learning sharing mode! [Source: School of Open]
