Research has shown that almost two-thirds of kids want their parents to spend more time reading to them before they go to sleep. This is just one of the facts that emphasizes the importance of reading, and is the idea behind World Read Aloud Day (WRAD) taking place today, March 6, 2013.
An initiative of the literacy organization LitWorld, WRAD is an occasion to promote literacy worldwide through the joy of reading. WRAD has events planned in New York, but anyone throughout the world can mark the day by reading a great book to an eager listener.
