Summer and ice cream go hand and hand. What better way to beat the heat than to scoop up some frozen treat? Dairy or dairy-free, there’s something for everyone.
A decade ago, according to Go Dairy Free, there were very few nondairy options for people who are vegan or lactose intolerant. Today, there are many varieties of non-dairy and vegan ice creams available in your natural food store or supermarket.
Here are seven of the many great choices of non-dairy ice creams made of soy, coconut, almond or oat. They come in a large variety of flavors, and are available in scoopable pints, bars, and sandwiches. So stock your freezer and dig in.
Haagen Dazs
This indulgent ice cream producer has come up with a truly unique non-dairy line including pints and bars, and there is a myriad of delectable flavors like Amaretto Black Cherry Almond Toffee, Coconut Caramel, Mango Sorbet, and Chocolate Fudge. Instead of using just an almond or coconut base, every flavor is customized according to Go Dairy Free. All of Haagen Dazs’ flavors are vegan, gluten-free and soy-free.

So Delicious
This is the ultimate non-dairy treat for coconut lovers according to MindBodyGreen. The brand uses coconut milk as its base and that makes it extra creamy and delicious. So Delicious also has frozen treats made with almond milk and oat milk. There are even sugar-free varieties so there really is something for everyone to indulge in.
Planet Oat
This unique non-dairy dessert is made from oat milk and coconut oil according to Go Dairy Free. Planet Oak comes in eight flavors including mouthwatering Coffee Fudge Swirl, Cookies & Crème, and Blueberry Oat Crumble. Planet Oat is best known for its oat milk and coffee creamers. Available on Amazon Fresh.
Daiya
This Canadian brand is known more for their vegan cheese line but Daiya also makes a non-dairy ice cream bar, reported MBG. There are four delectable flavors including grown-up tastes like Espresso Coffee and Salted Caramel Swirl. All of Daiya products contain no dairy, gluten, soy, eggs, peanuts, and fish so they are perfect for people with allergies.
Breyers
This non-dairy ice cream comes in four flavors and is readily available in grocery stores. Breyers is made with almond milk instead of cream and comes in 1.5-quart tubs so it is an economical choice for people who are lactose intolerant or vegan. All the flavors are gluten-free and soy free except for Oreos Cookies & Cream.
O’My Gelato
This rich vegan non-dairy gelato is really getting it right according to Go Dairy Free. With a whipped texture O’My Gelato tastes almost homemade. There are nine crowd-pleasing flavors available including Strawberry and Cake Batter that do not contain soy, gluten, peanuts, dairy, or pea protein. Enjoy some on a hot summer afternoon.
