Thirteen years after the release of the first installment of the series, Finding Nemo, Pixar has finally released the long awaited second part of this amazing adventure - Finding Dory. Many of today’s fans of the movie were just kids when Finding Nemo came out, and some of these former children are all grown up now and now have kids of their own. Whether you want to indulge in your childhood memories or simply watch an amazingly cute movie with your children, Finding Dory offers both fun and many teachable moments. We collected some of its best life lessons in the form of quotes for you:
1. “I can remember some things because I have a family because everyone has a family.” - Dory
The movie centers around the fact that Dory is suffering from short-term memory loss and can’t remember anything for more than a few moments. When Dory says this line in the movie, it reminds us that despite forgetting almost everything, her family remains the central point in her life and helps her remember some things. This serves to stress how important the support and love of our families is for a happy and successful life. No matter what happens in your life, your family will always be the one true constant you can always rely on.
2. “When life gets you down, you know what you gotta do? Just keep swimming.” - Dory
This is easily the most famous quote from Finding Dory and it is easy to see why. This is such an obvious life lesson that we often forget its importance: when things get tough or when you are facing difficulties in life - just keep moving forward and change will come.
3. “The best things happen by chance.” - Dory
The important lesson behind this simple sentence is, that while we obviously must plan our lives to a certain degree, we should never forget to retain a level of spontaneity. Almost all of us have a story of how we met our partners or best friends by sheer and complete coincidence, and that is the point of Dory’s quote. Good and adventurous things await behind almost every turn in life - you just have to keep and open mind and let them find you.
4. “When something is too hard…..There is always another way.” - Charlie (Dory’s Dad)
Sometimes life throws situations at you that leave you feeling lost and helpless. But as the lesson from #2 taught us, we should never give up. Somehow life will figure itself out and you will find another way out. This also means that we mustn’t always force ourselves through situations that seem impossible, but can look for alternative solutions. If Plans A and B don’t work, there are still 24 more letters in the alphabet.
5. “Well, you never really know, but when they know, you know, y’know?” - Crush (The Turtle)
One unifying feature of successful people is that they follow their gut. Sometimes, you may not be able to explain rationally why you believe that something needs to be done - and those might just be the times when you should trust yourself the most. Even if you don’t have a strong intuition, get in touch with yourself and listen to the voice in your belly. In the end, you know best what’s best for you.
6. “It means you can do whatever you put your mind to.” - Jenny (Dory's Mom)
In the movie, Dory’s parents laid out a track of shells so that Dory would able to find her way home. And even though Dory quickly forgets everything, she succeeded to remain focussed on the sea shells long enough to get back home. So even if there seem to be insurmountable obstacles in your way, if you truly put your mind to it, there is nothing that can stop you.
7. “This is the Ocean, silly, we’re not the only two in here.” - Dory
This quote is actually from Finding Nemo, but it is so relevant, we just had to include it in this list. Dory said this line when she and Marlin got lost in the vastness of the ocean, but even then, Dory realized that they are not alone, and there is always someone out there who can help. This turned out true for Dory and Marlin, and it is also true in life. Whatever you are going through, always remember that there are other people around you whom you can rely on - you just have to reach out and ask for help.
