Are you an energizer bunny always raring to go? Or do you often feel tired and sluggish throughout the day? If you feel worn-out by the middle of the day, you are far from alone.

If you are constantly tired, it could be your body signaling that you have to make some lifestyle changes to help you feel less tired and more energetic, according to The Greatest. Here are five tried and true ways to feel more energized naturally.

Adjust Your Bedtime

While it seems obvious that if you are tired, you need to sleep more but not getting enough sleep is extremely prevalent in the US. In fact, more than a third of Americans do not get enough sleep, according to a Center for Disease Control . The CDC recommends that adults aged 18-60 get at least seven hours of sleep a night.

Not getting enough sleep can lead to chronic health conditions so get your snooze on by going to bed earlier and you could wake up more energized and feel better all day long.

Stay Hydrated

Being dehydrated can make you feel drowsy so make an effort to drink water or other not caffeinated beverages all day, especially in the summer months, according to Healthline. Hydration is so important that you may want to invest in a smart water bottle to remind you to keep drinking.

Limit Sugar and Stick to Healthy Carbs

When you feel tired, your first reaction is to reach for a sweet snack or drink. Sugary foods cause a spike in blood sugar that causes your body to release a large amount of insulin. The result is that you feel even more tired. It’s much better to snack on a complex carb like whole grain crackers paired with a protein source like cheese to keep your energy up, suggests The Greatest.

Get Moving Every Day

You may think that exercising is the last thing you want to do when you are tired but it can actually be the best thing you can do. That’s because exercise releases hormones like epinephrine and norepinephrine that can help you fight fatigue and feel more energized. So instead of sitting during your lunch, take a stroll outdoors. Being in nature is a good way to improve your overall mood and wellbeing.

Take a Power Nap

If you need it, take a quick power nap. Naps can be big productivity boosters and do not have to take a long time. Taking a 20-minute nap can help you get the energy you need for the rest of the day. So turn off the computer and rest your body and mind.
