Winter is still here and that means that the weather is still cold. It’s the perfect time to spend indoors. It's also the right time of the year to start a new hobby or pastime to do while keeping warm and cozy indoors. Embrace the season and enjoy these five hobbies that can be done indoors.

Book Clubs and Reading

If you are a book-worm at heart and haven’t been able to read as much as you’ve wanted to (life gets busy), now is the perfect time to restart. If you want to go at it alone, that’s great. You can check out your local library or bookshop and start with something that catches your eye. Or perhaps you already have some options at home that you just haven’t had time to read.

Another cool option is starting a book club. When it’s cold and rainy and there aren’t really any places to go out to, a book club hosted by you or a friend can be a great choice, according to Metro. It gives you the fun of reading and the socializing you might be wanting. Winter is a magnificent time to start a book club. And who knows, perhaps it will continue well into the spring and beyond.

Start an Indoor Garden

Did you know you can do some gardening indoors? It’s true! Gardening isn’t reserved only for the outside. Having some plants or herbs growing in your home can be aesthetically beautiful, besides for fun and meaningful to upkeep. Plus, once they grow, you can even use the herbs in your cooking, according to The EveryGirl

Starting an indoor herb garden is simple and easy to do. There is no need to be nervous about it. If you want to start with herbs that are almost foolproof, go with cilantro, basil and parsley. You can purchase the seeds in any garden center or online. The best part of growing herbs is that you can use them in your meals, all year round.

Get Baking

Have you ever been in the mood of baking up a storm? Perhaps you have enjoyed baking in the past or when you had more time, or maybe you’ve never even touched a measuring cup but have been curious about the science of baking. Whatever the case may be, baking is a great hobby to take up in the winter.

Baking takes time and patience, and a great perk because your oven warms up your home. If you're a complete newbie to baking, find an easy recipe online with not so many ingredients or supplies and just go for it. Nothing beats the delicious smells of home-baked goodies.

Create a Masterpiece

Have you ever tried painting, sculpting or even plain old coloring? Chances are you have. No matter what your skill level is, if you’ve been painting for years or if you cannot draw a straight line, art is one of those things that has an almost magical relaxing power.

You might need some art supplies but for coloring, you might have all you need at home. You can do your own thing, free style, or watch a video tutorial for guidance or for inspiration. Art can be super enjoyable and can have a very calming effect on you. It’s cozy, fun to do, and you are left with a beautiful and unique piece of art!

Play Games

Spending time wrapped in a cozy blanket, a cup of hot tea and doing a crossword puzzle  is the idea of heaven to some. For others, the perfect games are board games like chess or monopoly. Still some enjoy playing games on a computer or gaming device. Whichever games you enjoy playing, according to Metro, this is an enjoyable way to stay home and watch the snow come down. A huge plus is you get to bond with and spend time with the people you love.
