5 Effective Ways to Remember Your Dreams

Maintain a regular sleep schedule
One of the most crucial steps in improving dream recall is maintaining a regular sleep schedule. Most dreams occur in the early hours of the morning during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep periods, according to Good Housekeeping. Dr. Jade Wu, a clinical psychologist at Duke University, explains that REM sleep periods get longer and occur more frequently after being asleep for an extended time; and this is when the most vibrant dreams happen.
So try to go to bed and wake up at consistent times each day to maximize your chance of remembering dreams. Aim for seven to nine hours of sleep per night and
create a sleep-friendly environment by keeping the bedroom temperature cool. 

Wake up slowly and mindfully
How you wake up can significantly impact your ability to remember dreams. Good Housekeeping advises against jumping out of bed or immediately reaching for your phone upon waking. Instead, take a few moments to lie still and reflect on any dream fragments you can recall.
Avoid using an alarm clock as the sudden jolt can disrupt dream recall. If you must use an alarm, choose a gentle, gradually increasing sound. Upon waking, keep your eyes closed and “bathe” in the remnants of your dream. Slowly transition to wakefulness, allowing your mind to linger in the dream state. Another idea is to create a dream anchor, recommends Lucid Dream Society. This could be an object in your bedroom that reminds you to recall dreams when you see it upon waking. Or, place notes around your living space with a question such as “What did I dream?”
Optimize recall with herbs and supplements
Certain herbs and nutrients, when taken before sleep, can influence remembering dreams. Lucid Dream Society suggests taking vitamin B6 before bed to significantly improve dream recall. Make tea with “dream herbs” and sip it during the day and just before bed. Mugwort, clary sage, and ginkgo biloba are believed to promote vivid dreams and enhance dream memory.
