New Yorkers Celebrate Grad’s Commencement During Subway Delay
A ceremony no one could forget
When graduate student, Jerich Marco Alcantara, missed his own commencement ceremony because of a delay on the New York subway, the other passengers came together and threw their own celebration in his honor.
Alcantara and his family were on their way to Hunter’s College Brookdale on Tuesday morning when the train suddenly stopped. It was another three hours before it would begin moving again.
The nursing student looked around and realized his fellow passengers were growing agitated, so to lighten the mood, he thanked the passengers for coming. Everyone began applauding and laughing, and one passenger even presented Alcantara with a diploma he looked up using his phone.
Another person played Green Day’s “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life).”
Although, the graduate and his family didn’t make it to the campus in time for the commencement, Alcantara’s friends had their own surprise waiting for him, another intimate ceremony.
