Wind flow currents constantly circulate on the stunning Wind Map, updated hourly with data from the National Digital Forecast Database. The brainchild of Fernanda Viégas and Martin Wattenberg, who now head Google's "Big Picture" visualization research group in Massachusetts, Wind Map takes up the elementary school science project to different levels, bringing out scientific data in innovative visualization.
Users can hover over major American cities to clock the wind speed or check out Snapshots of Winds Past, a gallery of spellbinding shots. Wind Map strives for accuracy, but humorously reminds browsers that it’s no resource for pilots or sailors en route to their destination. [Source: Wind Map]
