Room to Read

http://www.roomtoread.org

We envision a world in which all children can pursue a quality education, reach their full potential and contribute to their community and the world.
To achieve this goal, we focus on two areas where we believe we can have the greatest impact: literacy and gender equality in education.  We work in collaboration with communities and local governments across Asia and Africa to develop literacy skills and a habit of reading among primary school children, and support girls to complete secondary school with the life skills they’ll need to succeed in school and beyond.

Positive Impact for Kids

http://positiveimpactforkids.org

Positive Impact for Kids Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation striving to improve the lives of children and teenagers who are receiving inpatient medical treatment in the United States. We are raising funds to provide children’s hospitals with items from their wish lists. Hospital wish lists include: gift cards for the hospitalized children along with iPad minis and Xbox/Wii games for the children to use while hospitalized. Our goal is to decrease the hospitalized children’s pain and anxiety while increasing their self-esteem. We want the hospitalized children and their families to know others care. Positive Impact for Kids is funded through private contributions, fundraisers and grants. We operate on a minimal annual budget. Positive Impact for Kids has oversight by a non-paid and voluntary board of directors.

School Girls Unite

http://www.schoolgirlsunite.org

School Girls Unite began in a small café back in 2004 after a group of 12 year olds and young African women discussed the discrimination felt by girls in many developing countries. We aim to fight this discrimination, and advocate the powers of educating girls. We think education is the starting point to solving almost every other problem, including reducing diseases and ending poverty, and eventually increasing the number of women in leadership positions throughout the world.
School Girls Unite is comprised of chapters in the United States and Mali, Africa. Our incredible sister organization in Mali is called Les Filles Unies pour l’Education. We run a scholarship program in Mali, as well as provide leadership opportunities for youth in the US.
